The Prophecy
And in time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as : THE SON OF THE SUN.
And he shall bring Balance to the Force.

Star Wars 40th Anniversary !
30th May 2017
May the 25th 1977 saw Star Wars explode on to the U.S cinema screens for the first time.... and the World was changed forever more.

To commemorate this event, SW.com presented an invaluable collection of articles and interviews. From the technical innovations to the cultural impact, George Lucas' "small space opera" really did change many peoples' lives, mine included.

To mark the 40th anniversary Vanity Fair unveiled an Annie Liebowitz photo-shoot and interviews for The Last Jedi - in a similar fashion to what had been presented for The Force Awakens. Some nuggets in the interviews clarified that LFL - and in turn, the Sequel Trilogy directors - have full creative freedom in their artistic choices ; that Mark Hamill originally had reservations about how Luke was being presented in both Episodes VII and VIII ; that the Skywalker Twins are reunited ; that Benicio del Toro is called, mysteriously, "DJ", and his world, the gambling den casino planet, is called Canto Bight ; a recuperating Finn and new character Rose have an adventure here on a mission for the Republic's Resistance movement.

On May the 4th - Star Wars Day - Rian Johnson welcomed us from the recording studios with John Williams himself ! It was good to see them together, now, working in May, and a little while later, TLJ actors Mark Hamill and Laura Dern [Resistance Admiral Holdo] were invited to the studios too.

May also allowed us a sneek peek at some new TLJ Lego Sets, and confirmed that Snoke will be seen aboard a new-style Star Destroyer, and will be wearing gold robes (as rumoured previously) ; that there are new style AT-AT walkers and a new bomber craft for the Resistance [as seen in the Teaser trailer] ; that Poe Dameron is now a 'Captain' ; and that it's possible Rey ends up being involved in the battle on salt-flats planet Crait.

MakingStarWars recently provided details on the kit and backpack carried by Master Luke Skywalker :
  • A box with a blue 'marble' on top, with a compass inside, a beautifully made prop, and presumably plot-critical ;
  • A rough backpack, with a net afixed within which is kindling ;
  • A water bottle ;
  • A wooden walking stick ;
  • An electric 'cattle-prod' type of defensive weapon.

  • In addition, MSW also provided some details on the 'horse' creature that we briefly saw Finn (and Rose) riding at the Dubrovnic location shoot : it's known as a 'Falthier', and it's like a thoroughbred racehorse type of creature. It seems that the Resistance agents are meeting a contact on Canto Bight, but are pursued by a local force ; our heroes duck into the racing stables, and depart on horse-back, deal with their pursuers, then make it to a brightly-adorned cafe to meet with their contact.

    The Young Han Solo movie continues apace, with filming reportedly already carried out in Italy at Monte Piana WW1 trenches, 'Three Peaks', and Misurina Woods ; actors, including Warwick Davis, now arriving in Fuerteventura ahead of their location filming there ; and recent filming at the futuristic-looking Fawley power station near Southampton (UK), with what appeared to be young Han racing a landspeeder type of vehicle into - or through - or away from - an Imperial complex ! The latter location also allowed us our first actual glimpse of Alden Ehrenriech as Han Solo thanks to TMZ ! Furthermore, some pre-production artwork appeared on Ebay of primarily vehicles and speeders, and a few of Alden as Han, with one or two on-set rigging photos.

    In the illustrated fan-fic Episode VII : Plague of Doom, the drones carrying the aura gas inside the seven star destroyers all break down, releasing the dociling gas throughout the air-vents of the great vessels !
    The Star Destroyers lose attitudinal control above Kessel, and, caught in the gravitational pull, begin to plummet back towards the planet...
    On his Mon Cal cruiser, General Lando Calrissian watches in amazement as the great ships drop towards the surface, and remarks on the confused TIE fighter pilots that remain....

    You can see the VE artwork in the 'Kessel' art gallery as well as in the online illustrated story, and you can discuss this in the forum here !
