Episode IX commences filming !
30th August 2018 |
At the beginning of August, it was announced that filming had commenced for Episode IX ! With a cryptic on-set photo of a camera set-up pointing in towards the Falcon's cockpit, we can just about make out, Chewbacca and Finn, with what appears to be Rey in the pilot's seat.
In addition, reports emerged from the Fisher Estate that footage of Carrie from both The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi would be used, though it's implied that there is minimal material left unused from Episode VIII. Fansite SWNN comments on not only the timing of the TLJ home release and its lack of extras (with Leia) but also Abrams' "grateful thanks" to Johnson ; however, there's a subsequent comment from Johnson from late 2017 that revealed there wasn't much relevant footage left over.

By the end of August some photos snapped long-distance emerged of some of the heroes on location in the UK. Sites SWNN and MSW both reveal Finn and Poe on a grassy hill, with indigenous peoples dressed in african / camouflage outfits ; also we see Chewbacca standing next to the locals' shaggy horse-type creatures.
MSW was also able to reveal that the Falcon set had been spotted in a forest near the Pinewood Studios.
It's far too early to identify or speculate, other than recall the rumours pre-TLJ that the ST would revisit OT locations.... such as Endor, Yavin, and possibly Mustafar.

By the end of August, another actor had been all but officially linked to Episode IX : Dominic Monaghan, from Abrams' Lost and one of the hobbits from The Lord of the Rings, had been cast, and it was commented that he had been a favourite earlier on in the Sequel Trilogy production, including the pre-TFA rumour that he might have been playing a Jedi. His listing on IMDB.com has been updated to show his association with the movie.
A few days later, UK actor Matt Smith, a former Doctor Who, was reported in the trade magazine Variety as having been cast, and even with a "key role" ; likewise, IMDB has since been updated to reflect this addition.

The illustrated virtual edition Episode VII : Plague of Doom continued with two new pieces of artwork, presenting the dastardly machinations of the evil Doctor Bloodory on Kessel.
|
Bloodory presents King Oxus to Commander Kane and Weelsa the Hutt. The evil scientist plays the former king like a puppet, and remotely controls him to take a small hand blaster, and aim it at Kane and Weesla ! |
|
Before Oxus can open fire, the evil scientist manipulates more switches and the docile King obediently returns to the restraining table. |

|
You can see the VE artwork in the 'Kessel' art gallery as well as in the online illustrated story, and you can discuss this in the forum here ! |
