The Imperials' secret operations on Kessel
31st July 2013 |
Returning to the earlier scenes in our unofficial Sequel Trilogy, Episode VII : Plague of Doom, we discover the secret machinations of the Imperial Emperor, Mas Amedda : hidden on the Hutt-owned world of Kessel, Commander Kane has set up operations within an ancient castle that was home to the incumbent Hutt, Weesla. From here, Kane plans on distributing aura-gas filled droids across the galaxy, the modified spice gas guaranteeing a dociling effect on the populaces ! |
Kane's Imperial fleet arrives in the Kessel star system, the grey spice planet preserving it's secrets from the curious onlooker. |
In these two older images created by Scott and Nat, Commander Kane is notified of an incoming transmission from the Second Emperor Mas Amedda, and hurries to update him as to the progress of their plague of doom ! |
In an early image created by Nat, Commander Kane meets the evil scientist, Doctor Bloodory..... |
Kane is pleasantly surprised to discover that one of the recent captives from Ondos is none other than Princess Alana Seren, who will make a valuable bargaining chip against her uncle, King Oxus ! |
A little later, Kane makes a visit to Alana who is held secure in one of the castle towers. Taking the opportunity to imply an older more ancient history than the one seen on the screen, it is implied that the Hutts 'inherited' the castle on Kessel by various means from the previous owners ; thus this castle does not necessarily reflect the true Hutt-style architecture as seen on their homeworld of Nal Hutta. |

You can see the VE artwork in the 'Kessel' art gallery as well as in the online illustrated story, and you can discuss this in the forum here ! |

Late July saw the Second 'Celebration Europe', this time located in Germany. Here, several items were announced, including John Williams formally signing on to Episode VII, several "cool and interesting" locations being considered for the first of the Official Sequel Trilogy, the existance of an ongoing production debate over the balance of CG and practical special effects for the OST, and the PT concept artists Chiang and McCaig, on board for Episode VII, re-affirming that Lucas always directs them to historical precedents for inspiration. |
Additionally, Clone Wars supervising director Dave Filoni confirmed he was working on the new animated show, 'Star Wars Rebels', set in the Episode III-IV timeframe, and very much visually inspired by the ANH Ralph McQuarrie concept paintings. Filoni also revealed artwork from the show, and introduced the protagonist's new ship, 'Ghost', a Corellian freighter fully re-armed ! |
