The Prophecy
And in time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as : THE SON OF THE SUN.
And he shall bring Balance to the Force.

Episode IX Rise of Skywalker teaser trailer is here !
31st May 2019
In Mid May the culture magazine VANITY FAIR released a slew of publicity photos taken by Annie Leibovitz - as she has done on the previous recent movies - for Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker. Unsurprisingly, the images don't really give much away that certain fan sites hadn't already reported on ; however, the article confirms the following names :

PLANETS
  • Desert world Pasaana
  • Snow-dusted world Kijimi

    CHARACTERS
  • Warrior-archer Jannah [played by Naomie Ackie]
  • Masked and purple-suited scoundrel Zorri Bliss [played by Keri Russell]
  • First Order General Pryde [played by Richard E Grant]

And Kathleen Kennedy is quoted as saying :
"I think that Disney is very respectful of what this is, and right from the beginning we talked about the fragility of this form of storytelling. Because it’s something that means so much to fans that you can’t turn this into some kind of factory approach. You can’t even do what Marvel does, necessarily, where you pick characters and build new franchises around those characters. This needs to evolve differently....
"There’s a loss of innocence, a sense of innocence that existed in the 70s that I don’t think to any extent exists today. I think that has to permeate the storytelling and the reaction to the stories and how they’re set up. It has to feel differently because we’re different.”

The John Williams fan site, JWFan.com, confirmed that recording for The Rise of Skywalker was scheduled for June ; the article adds that Williams records "about 15 minutes of music a day" - which is "quick" apparently !! Also, SWNN picked up on an article from The Times UK newspaper that, by mid May, Williams had composed "25 minutes" of the score for TROS.

The end of May saw the grand opening of the first of two Disneyland Star Wars parks. 'Galaxy's Edge' is a themed land set in the canonical 'Black Spire Outpost' on the Outer Rim world of Batuu, in a timeframe set during the First Order and the Resistance. The previews show such a rich and varied experience that any Star Wars fan - including myself and my family ! - would be foolish to miss !! :o)

Sadly, on May the 3rd - the day before 'Star Wars Day' - it was announced that the mighty Peter Mayhew - Chewbacca - had died. He brought a unique style and persona to the fictional character and brought the Wookiee to life like no other person could, save for his successor, Joonas Suotomo. The character, from a 'Campbellian' point of view, was vitally important to the group of heroes, and to the primary Hero on his Heroic Journey in particular : this was the loyal but partly incomprehensible savage, who expressed himself more in emotion and action than in words. That only a very few could understand his language made him all the more unique and special in the pantheon of characters.

In the illustrated virtual edition of Episode VII : Plague of Doom Luke and the droids sneak in towards the Imperial gas processing factory and the Hutt castle hidden in hovering mine carts. With a wave of his hand, Luke uses the Force to open the cart doors, and then release the trucks to let them resume their journey into the factory.
