A deluge of plot rumours for The Rise of Skywalker
30th September 2019 |
Fan site MSW seems to have the inside gen on plot rumours. Across several reports, they find :
[SPOILERS present, so highlight the text below]
The film opens with a young Luke and Leia sword training on the Endor moon. Initially under helmets, they reveal themselves, and Leia discloses that she is pregnant, and will retire from her Jedi training ; then the scene cuts to Leia and Rey similarly training.
There is a scene involving a sandworm 'attacking' the heroes, though sources seem unsure whether Rey uses the Force to heal her friends or the sandworm.
Finn and Jannah are on a mission to attack a Super Star Destroyer ; it may be that Jannah has a vested interest against the First Order, and some sources suggest that these two might be siblings.
Rey accidentally shoots lightning and appears to destroy a ship.
The origin of the red-armoured Sith Stormtroopers may never be revealed, though it might be that they were abducted children ; this might tie in to the subplot involving Fin and Jannah. It may also be the case that any explanation for how Sidious survived the Second Death Star may be left to support material like the tie-in reference books and novel.
British actor Matt Smith (Doctor Who) was indeed scripted to be involved in the film, possibly as a young Palpatine, but it appears his role has been cut.
Sidious' throne recalls the Ralph McQuarrie ROTJ concept painting of the seat of power found in a lava cavern, with four pointed 'thorns' surrounding the dais.
A rejuvenated Sidious appears similar to his Episode III timeframe, and wears a new cloak of red/burgundy/black colours.
Sidious throws Ben Solo into a misty abyss.... but his sources are not sure if he will survive.
Sidious stabs lightning up into the sky disabling the Resistance fleet.
Rey defends herself from lightning with two lightsabres.
The film ends at the Lars farmstead, and Rey identifies herself as a 'Skywalker'.
[SPOILERS END]

The Official Site recently confirmed that Deborah Chow will direct the new live-action TV show for Obi-Wan Kenobi. She has apparently impressed LFL and Disney with her work on The Mandalorian, with Kathleen Kennedy feeling that Deborah "is able to explore both the quiet determination and rich mystique of Obi-Wan in a way that folds seamlessly" into Star Wars. The article also notes that Ewan McGregor will be co- Executive Producer for this, the third, live-action series.

Fansite SWNN reported at the end of the month that the Marvel films boss Kevin Feige has been tasked with developing what appears to be a single Star Wars movie. No other details and timeframe have been given, but one does wonder if he is being prepped for a move into Kathleen Kennedy's position of Lucasfilm president if she retires in 2021.

SWNN reported on media site IGN's interview with Dave Filoni's work with Lucasfilm and on The Mandalorian. Filoni has now made the "jump to lightspeed" from animated to live-action, and has helped create two episodes of the new TV show. Both Filoni and Producer Jon Favreau have promised lots of 'easter eggs' and tie-in references in the series, and it appears the show-makers have a certain amount of freedom with running time constraints. Dave also acknowledges he was "taught" by George [Lucas], and although the medium of live-action was new, the context of the Star Wars 'world' was very familiar to him.
The article also provided a sneak peek at the Razor Crest, the titular bounty hunter's ship, a single-cockpit low-slung vessel with two large engines held aloft.

At the end of the month ILMxLAB and Oculus Studios announced that the VR series 'Vader Immortal - Episode II' was now available. As a Force-sensitive smuggler recruited by Vader, the player can explore the Dark Lord's castle on Mustafar, wield a lightsabre, and now combine that skill with mastery of the Force itself ! The Oculus kit retails around £400, and the game sells for around £10.

The next scene for the illustrated virtual edition of Episode VII : Plague of Doom shows Leia Force-throw the mine trooper guards to one side. Having just been challenged for identification and prisoner transfer codes, rather than have her husband try and shoot their way past the guards, Leia quickly opts to call on the Force to quietly dispose of them instead !

You can see the VE artwork in the 'Kessel' art gallery as well as in the online illustrated story, and you can discuss this in the forum here ! |

I've also been able to write scenes for Chewbacca and Han Solo in the prose version of my virtual edition Episode X 'The Riddle of the Pirates'. The next scenes will introduce Luke, Alana, and Leia. I'm also wondering whether to publish this story as I go along, as opposed to unveiling it complete, like I did with the scripted version of the virtual edition Episode IX 'Duel of the Fates'.
